Although feminism is becoming more popular due to the help of famous feminist celebrities, such as Emma Watson and Beyonce, spreading the word about gender equality, there are still unfair treatment among women with their jobs, like in tech companies, and how they're paid.

According to www.nytimes.com, "Over all, seven out of 10 people who work at Google are male. Men make up 83 percent of Google's engineering employees and 79 percent of its managers."The www.nytimes.com also says that Google isn't the only tech company dominated by males, there is apple, facebook, yahoo, and twitter. With all of these tech companies being male dominated, this proves that there is hidden discrimination against female applicants.

So it doesn't really even matter about what an employer is capable of to get a job, but that it matters what gender they are to get a job.

The discrimination against female applicants isn't the only serious offense against gender equality. Another problem is that women aren't paid the same amount as men.

As stated by www.thenewamerican.com, "...the male-female wage gap is due to discrimination - that practiced by the market. In other words, when people value your contribution more highly, you get paid more." What's that supposed to mean? Just because someone is a female employer they can't do their job just as good as a male employers can. This just proves that there is certainly discrimination against females when it comes to wages.

When women get paid less it not only affects them now, but also in the future. According to ourfuture.org, "The pay discrimination against women not only hurts their current well-being and future security, but also means tens of billions less in revenues to fund Social Security." What the website overall is saying is that when women get equal pay, there will be a better and safer retirement plan for them and their family when they get older.

Gender inequality is still happening today, with the discrimination about applying female applicants and women getting lower wages, and it needs to be stopped. It's not only hurting the women themselves, but also their families that they have to support; especially if they're a single parent.

  1. I like how you included outside sources such as the wages to emphasize the discrimination between men and women. I also agree that gender inequality needs to stop as it is limiting opportunities for women in these major tech companies. Employers should take one's capability to work into consideration when hiring, and they should not base it on gender.

  2. Good points and outside sources. When you reference a source, you need to use the Author or article rather than the entire website.
